Woman sparks debate by travelling to Turkey for a £20 hair appointment
A woman has sparked a debate after admitting she has been flying all the way to Turkey to get her hair done for £20 for the past 10 years, but she thinks it’s worth it
Heading to the salon and getting your hair dyed professionally can cost you anywhere from £40 to well over £120, according to reports, and with the cost of living crisis things are only getting more expensive.
Some people are taking drastic actions to keep costs down, with one person recently revealing they flew to Ibiza to buy a pint of beer for less than a crate of beer would have cost in the UK.
Now a woman has sparked a fresh debate after admitting she flew all the way to Turkey to get her hair done for just £20.
The UK-based lash technician explained in a recent TikTok video that she has been going to Turkey to get her hair dyed, cut and blowdried for the past 10 years.
She not only goes because she loves the way the stylist does her hair, but it’s also incredible cheap, costing her about £20.
Posting on the account @ipsbeauty, the beautician said: “Get my hair done in Turkey with me…how cheap is it really?”
She added: “Only cost 400 Turkish Lira which works out to £20. Plus 200 Lira tip.”
In the video, the Turkish hair stylist, who is wanting to move to London, dyed her hair black, and she joked: “He’s actually getting sick of seeing me every year. Joke he loves me.”
The woman added that she didn’t travel to Turkey alone, because her mum came with her. She explained: “Even mum’s getting dolled up! Go on sexy mumma.”
She then filmed herself getting her hair dyed black, before getting it cut and blow dry. At the end she said: “I’m obsessed.”
The video clip sparked a fierce debate, with one person saying the reason it’s affordable is because of the struggling Turkish economy.
One person commented: “You will regret it. They ruined my hair, it’s nice and everything but their dye damages the hair and you will notice when you go back home.”
However, someone else replied saying: “They? They who? Turkish hair stylist[s] are world renowned. You may have had a bad experience but you can anywhere”.
Another added: “Not you judging EVERY hair salon in Turkey over your experience with someone who did your hair.”
In a similar video posted on the app, where a man travelled to Italy to buy pizza for less than ordering a Domino’s, people complained that with the price of air travel, as well as getting to the airport and accommodation, it is no longer cheap.
The woman received similar comments, with one person said: “For the hair yes, then flights and accommodation; my hairdresser here at home charges around £15.”
Another added: “Well it don’t cost just £20 does it, you obviously forgot to add, the flight, the transfer, the hotel, the extras etc etc so technically she would be spending more than in the UK.”
However, others completely understood her, with one person added: “Why not it’s a good excuse for a little getaway good luck to her.”
