Turkiye’s stocks down 0.16% at Friday’s open

Turkiye’s benchmark stock index opened at 2,389.71 points on Friday, falling 3.60 points, or 0.16%, from the previous close.

Borsa Istanbul’s BIST 100 index fell slightly by 0.05% to 2,393.61 points on Wednesday, with a daily trading volume of 34.07 billion Turkish liras ($2.614 billion).

Borsa Istanbul markets were closed on Thursday as Turkiye marked the Commemoration of Ataturk, Youth and Sports Day.

The annual May 19 holiday is dedicated to the country’s founder Mustafa Kemal Ataturk and the heroes of the Turkish War of Independence.

The US dollar/Turkish lira exchange rate decreased to 15.9540 as of 10 a.m. local time (0700GMT) on Friday, versus 15.9790 at the previous close.

The euro/lira exchange rate increased to 16.8835 from 16.8080, while a British pound traded for 19.9075 Turkish liras, up from 19.8490.

The price of Brent crude oil was around $111.60 per barrel as of 10 a.m. local time, while the price of one ounce of gold was $1,846.90.
