Turkey completes clean sweep in Australia

The under strength Australians, playing without seven of their starting line up, had much the better of the first half, but were unable to convert their numerous scoring chances. By contrast, Nihat Kahveci’s sweetly taken free kick from outside the area on the left, one of Turkey’s few clean opportunities in the first stanza, put the visitors one up just moments before half time.
And there the scoring remained, with neither side able to find the back of the net for the next 45 minutes. Both Australian coach Frank Farina and Turkey’s Ersun Yanal rang the changes in the second half, bringing on numerous subs off the bench to give most of the two squads a run.
The Melbourne win, coming on top of the far more convincing 3-1 victory in Sydney Friday, gave Turkey a clean sweep of the two game series, the first time the two national sides had met in international competition.
The Turkish national team will continue its Asian tour with games against Japan and South Korea.
