Pipes’ Nomination Hindered in the Senate

Sen. Harkin noted the controversial website that Pipes had established online (www.campuswatch.org) and the numerous expressions that were described by a University of Michigan Professor as a “record of slandering academics”.
Many other organizations were present during the meeting, and left thankful that this was not a nomination that would be allowed to slip under the Senate’s eyes unnoticed.

Senator John Warner (R-VA) talked about the need to investigate the nomination closer given what he had heard. He had many more questions regarding the nominee.

The nomination of Daniel Pipes to head the U.S. Institute for Peace, a taxpayer-funded think tank, will not contribute to the mission of the Institute. On the contrary, his approval will only serve to further divide people and nations rather than to bring them together to foster peaceful resolutions of conflicts.
