Actual date for Turkey-EU talks early 2006

The delay is the result of the requirements of the EU, which has an initial scanning process that must be completed before discussions formally open, the official said. This process entails a detailed study of the candidate country’s laws and regulations and comparing them to those of the EU.
“However, we are very well prepared and the process should end quickly,” the Anatolian news agency quoted the unnamed official as saying.
Despite this, the official added that the scanning process would not be completed by October 3, resulting in a delay in the opening of accession negotiations.
Turkey had pushed for membership talks to start in the first quarter of 2005, saying that it had met the requirements set down by the EU.
