What Are The Entry Requirements For Turkey?

Turkey has reopened its borders in time for summer, allowing UK tourists to travel to the popular holiday destination once again. As of June 2022, you can travel from the UK to Turkey and back with relative ease.

COVID-19 measures

As of 1 June 2022, there are no COVID-19 related restrictions on entering Turkey from the UK.

When you arrive in Turkey, you do not need to provide any proof of vaccination or negative PCR test results. This applies to both vaccinated and unvaccinated people.

There are no extra steps to take if you have tested positive for COVID-19 in the past year.

You may still be asked to follow some safety measures in airports, on public transport, or in other public spaces. Measures could include wearing a face covering or maintaining social distancing.

Passports

Your passport must be valid for at least six months from the date you arrive in Turkey, and should have a full blank page for entry and exit stamps.

If your passport is due to expire sooner than six months after your holiday begins, it’s worth requesting a renewal as soon as possible, as a new passport can take up to 10 weeks to arrive.

Visas

If you’re a British citizen travelling to Turkey as a tourist or for business, you can stay in the country for up to 90 days in any 180 day period without getting a visa.

If you plan to stay in Turkey for longer than 90 days, you can either apply for a longer stay visa before you travel, or apply for a residence permit from the local Turkish authorities before 90 days of your stay have passed.

Requirements for children

There are no additional entry requirements if you are travelling from the UK to Turkey with children.

If you are travelling from Turkey to the UK with a child who is a dual British-Turkish national, you may be asked to show the Turkish authorities evidence that the Turkish parent has given permission for the child to travel.

Returning to the UK from Turkey

When you return to the UK, you do not need to quarantine or take any COVID-19 tests.

Additional travel advice

In Turkey, it is illegal to go out without some form of photo ID. You should keep your passport with you at all times during your trip, but take extra care to keep it safe, and do not leave it unattended.

Taking out a travel insurance policy will ensure you are covered if your passport — or another valuable item — is lost or stolen. It will also cover any medical expenses should you get injured or fall ill during your trip.

Some policies include cancellation cover, which could be especially useful if COVID-19 impacts your trip ahead of departure.
