Turkmen hold anti-US protest in Kirkuk

Nejmadin Kassab, spokesman for the Turkmen Front said that there are dozens of Turkmen being held by the US, stressing that as Iraq is now a democracy it was high time for the Turkmen to be heard.

Turkmen are an ethnic minority living in Kirkuk, who originate from Turkish roots and speak a Turkic language.

Recent Kurdish aspirations to control Kirkuk have brought to light worries by the Turkmen that their integrity may be compromised in the region.
