Turkey’s Mumcu in Iran to sign cooperation pact

Mumcu flew to Tehran on Tuesday morning to pay a visit to Camee. Mumcu said at a press briefing held prior to the fair in the Azadi Hotel that Turkey is aware of the importance of communicating with the representatives of the Iranian tourism sector as it will lead to a communication bridge between the Turkish and Iranian public.

Stating that Mumcu and his Iranian counterpart were to hold meetings in order to strengthen the tourism and culture ties between the countries, Mumcu said that he and Camee were there to sign the tourism cooperation pact later on Tuesday for furthering the relations between the two countries.

500,000 Iranian tourists visited Turkey in 2003
Indicating that Turkey and Iran had signed last year a cooperation protocol between the travel agencies of both Turkey and Iran, Mumcu noted that 500,000 Iranians visited Turkey in 2003.

"This number shows a 14.46 percent increase compared to the previous year (2002). The number of Iranians coming to Turkey during the first three months of this year also shows a 28 percent increase and reached up to 89,000 people compared to last year," added Mumcu.

Indicating "the cultural closeness between the friend and neighbor Turkey and Iran," Mumcu’s Iranian counterpart Camee said in his statement in the opening ceremony of the fair that "there is a need to utilize the existing capacity in tourism sector in order to strengthen the cooperation between the two countries."
