Turkey hosting the new radar system for the defense of NATO

Turkey, the second largest NATO military force, is of great geostrategic importance for the Atlantic Alliance from its role in the Cold War. Its value has increased since the proliferation of countries in the Near East and Asia with anti-Western policies.

Last November, NATO leaders approved a new mission for NATO, which includes a commitment to defense against missiles .

The strategic concept of the Alliance for the coming decade, adopted in Lisbon, confirmed that the main task of the organization is to defend its territory and its commitment to the defense of its 28 members.

A Foreign Ministry spokesman said the alliance decided to develop a new system of defense against a missile threat, a project that is ending .

"Everyone knows that the radar system will be installed in our country (Turkey) by the U.S. on behalf of NATO," the spokesman said in a statement.

"Hosting this element is the contribution of Turkey to the defense system that is developed within the framework of the new NATO strategic concept. "

In recent years, Turkey has formed strong ties with former Soviet bloc members , and other Muslim states of the Near East, including Iran, to reposition itself after a very pro-Western past.

Relations between Ankara and Tehran have deteriorated recently. His differences with the Syrian revolt and the politics of weapons from Iran makes Turkey between two stools. The placement of this radar does nothing to tighten the rope, as the Iranians see this system as a threat.
