Turkey Has Strategic Importance in Overcoming Europe’s Energy Crisis

The energy crisis in Europe causes an increase in the prices of agricultural products; Turkey is strategically important to become Europe’s food supplier with its logistics advantage and affordable costs. Daan Busscher, the Organizer and Export Partner of the Dutch Pavilion, which is participating as a national participant in the world’s largest greenhouse agriculture industry Fair Growtech this year, said that the trade volume between the two countries is increasing every year.

Daan Busscher, evaluating the Growtech Fair, which was held for the 21st time at the Anfaş Fair Center, as a beneficial platform for the world agriculture sector, said, “While we participated in our pavilion last year with 8 companies; This year that number has increased to 12. Next year, we will represent our country in a wider area with 20 companies serving in different sectors. Growtech is an important platform for us. We establish important commercial connections with companies, especially with our products in the greenhouse and greenhouse equipment sector. We also make purchases from Turkish companies. Energy costs in the Netherlands have risen to 3 times in the last period. The price of food products rose. Since agricultural areas are also limited in our country, we buy many vegetables and fruits that are consumed daily from abroad. Turkey has an important place among these countries,” he said.

TURKEY HAS A SIGNIFICANT POTENTIAL

Pointing out that Turkey is important in terms of agricultural areas and logistics, Busscher continued his words as follows: “The Netherlands has limited agricultural areas in terms of surface area. For this reason, we apply vertical farming methods in order to get the most efficiency from the unit area. The Netherlands has a significant knowledge and experience in agriculture. Companies clustered in the region called Westland share this knowledge with each other. In Turkey, Antalya is a region with the same density and experience in terms of the agricultural sector. Turkey has an important potential to overcome the energy crisis in Europe due to its proximity to Europe, logistics, cost advantages and climate. This is already understood more clearly when we look at the trade figures between the two countries.

WE ARE MAKING IMPORTANT CONNECTIONS WITH THE NETHERLANDS

Growtech Fair Director Engin Er said that the Netherlands, which is in Growtech with national participation, provides important trade links for Turkish companies.

Expressing that the Netherlands is one of the first countries that come to mind when it comes to agriculture, Er said: “The Netherlands, which is an agricultural country, is in an important position for Turkey as a new target market, as well as having technological experience. The product variety and cost advantages offered by Antalya, especially in greenhouse agriculture, are also attractive for countries with cold climates such as the Netherlands. Growtech; It also contributes to the development of agricultural foreign trade between the two countries. We have actually implemented an important international trade platform here. We contribute to the development of the country’s economy by bringing together domestic and foreign companies. In this context, Turkey plays a bridge role in agricultural cooperation with the Netherlands.”
