Turkey: DEHAP trial on Monday

Four former Democratic Nation Party (DEHAP) executives, who have been convicted and sentenced for tempering with official documents, will be heard on Monday in the appeals court.

After the defendants make their defense, court will give a date for announcing its verdict.

If the court approves the sentences, Supreme Election Board (YSK) will mull over the court verdict’s consequence on the last November’s National Elections. DEHAP executives were convicted of tempering with documents they had to provide for entering the elections. There has been speculation on what YSK can decide, if the court approves the sentences. Speculations range from nothing at all to cancellation of the elections.
