March rejection will not be repeated

NEW YORK (NTV) – Turkish Foreign Minister Abdullah Gul said today that he did not believe parliamentary rejection of US troops deployment in Turkey that occurred on March 1 would not be repeated, adding that ruling Justice and Development Party (AKP) parliamentary group would support any action government perceives it needs to take.

Speaking to NTV news channel reporters, Gul said that US foreign policy was based on combating terrorism, noting that in that context it could not avoid the threat posed by Kurdistan Workers Party (PKK/KADEK) terrorist organization.

UN RESOLUTION
Gul said it was very important for UN to pass a resolution on Iraq, but noted that there were more important issues Turkey had to deal with.

SENDING TROOPS
Gul declined to speculate on when government would submit a proposal to Parliament to send Turkish troops to Iraq, but claimed that AKP group support any action government might take on the issue.

COMBATING PKK
Gul said his meetings with US officials concerning combating and eliminating PKK were continuing and noted that a US delegation would be visiting Turkey next week just to discuss this issue.
