Turkey: Businessmen against sending troops

Speaking at TUSIAD Supreme Consultation Council meeting in Cesme, Ozilhan said that single party government was not enough for political stability, adding that all policies should be implemented by inter-party consensus.

He said in the current circumstances, even a forestry law was enough to provoke a referendum, noting that such incidents did not benefit Turkey.

TUSIAD NEGATIVE ON SENDING TROOPS
Ozilhan said Turkey sending troops to Iraq did not make sense, instead Turkey should provide relief and assistance and help propping up democracy, all under the UN auspices. He noted that even US was seeking UN help.

FOREIGN POLICY
Turkey should try to solve the Cyprus issue trough the Annan plan, said Ozilhan, adding that approaching deadline and making unrealistic requests could not go together.

ECONOMY STILL IMPORTANT
Ozilhan supported the government initiatives and policies on economy, adding that economy was still the top of the agenda in Turkey. He said next IMF debt review was important and government policies seem to reflect a new sense of urgency in trying to get Turkey out of the deep economic recession.
