TRNC yesterday severely criticized the EU’s Cyprus reports

On the previous day, PAEC had accepted the two reports casting Turkey and TRNC in a negative light. In a statement yesterday during the acceptance of the Sciences Academy Turkey History Foundation executive committee, Foreign Minister Gul indicated that Turkey had made the 1974 Cyprus Peace Operations within the framework of the rights stemming from the treaties of Turkey’s being a guarantor state in Cyprus. He also denied claims that Turkey is sending high number of mainland Turks to the island in order to boost the general Turkish population. Stressing that conflict was not going to further peace movements, Gul underlined that all sides should channel their energies towards positive activity.

Regarding the first report, which accused Turkey of trying to disturb the population balance in Cyprus, Foreign Ministry spokesman Dirioz stated that the objections of the Turkish deputies in the parliament and motions for amendments had been recorded.

Turkish Enemy Atmosphere Forms

Meanwhile, in a statement to Zaman relating to the reports, one of the PAEC Turkey reporters, Luxembourg parliamentarian Mady Delvaux-Stehres, drew to attention the fact that an atmosphere of animosity and provocation towards Turkey was present in the general body during discussion of the reports.

Both of the reports approved by the PAEC criticize Turkey and the TRNC harshly. A report entitled "The Fundamental Rights of the Greeks and the Maronites Living in the North of Cyprus" prepared by the Swiss parliamentarian Dick Marty, claims that unfair pressure has been applied to the Greek and Maronite societies in Northern Cyprus.
