Production and deliveries of Turkey’s all-electric Togg T10X SUV just kicked off and the keys to the very first example have been handed over to President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan.

Turkey has been working on its homegrown EV project for quite some time and while speaking with reporters at the handover, President Erdoğan noted that his office placed the first order for the T10X back in 2019.

We had placed the first order for Togg, our national and indigenous brand that makes our country proud, in 2019. And today, we are receiving the first smart vehicle. I hope Togg, one of the initial fruits of the Century of Türkiye, may be auspicious for our nation,” the President said. “Togg has emerged, developed and reached its current level as a symbol of our country’s technological progress, economic development and global prestige. We are inshallah starting to see Togg on the roads as of today.”

While Togg is a new brand with no proven history, that hasn’t stopped locals from throwing their support behind the company. In fact, Daily Sabah reports that more than 177,400 people submitted preorders in the first 21 days of it being available. Thanks to this strong demand, the company has had to increase its 2023 production plans from 12,000 units up to 20,000.

The first version of the Togg T10X SUV to reach the hands of customers rocks a single, rear-mounted electric motor that produces 218 hp and 258 lb-ft (350 Nm) of torque. Customers can then choose between two different-sized battery packs that offer up 195 miles (314 km) and 325 miles (523 km) of range respectively. This model can hit 62 mph (100 km/h) in 7.4 seconds.

Arriving in October will be a more powerful version. It has two electric motors with 435 hp and 516 lb-ft (700 Nm) of torque and can hit 62 mph in 4.8 seconds. Its battery can also be topped up from 20% to 80% capacity in just 30 minutes.
