Taliban calls off two-day for release of Turkish engineer

Diplomatic sources told the A.A correspondent on Sunday that Ghazni Governor Esadullah Khan informed Turkish officials that kidnappers of Onal lifted the two-day period.

The same sources said that Taliban fighters did not want to kill Onal, but they want release of their imprisoned friends.

Onal and his Afghan driver were abducted at gunpoint on Thursday while travelling in the Shah Joy district of Zabul province on the main highway linking the capital Kabul with the southern province of Kandahar.

The driver was released on Friday and given a letter to the authorities threatening to kill Onal unless their six friends were released.

Yesterday, they gave a period of two days for release of their six imprisoned friends in exchange for him.
