Talat Fails to Persuade Greek-Cypriot to Vote ‘Yes’

64 percent of the members of TRNC Foreign Minister Serdar Denktas’ Democrat Party said ‘no’ in a poll conducted within the party before the referendum. It is stated that a mini referendum, in which only 2,600 out of 6,000 members vote, cannot be the ‘only determining factor’ in the party’s decision. There are speculations about the decision to be reached after evaluation by party councils.

Concerning the speech that TRNC President Rauf Denktas will deliver to the Turkish Parliament on Thursday, Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan, who is currently visiting Japan, said: "I have not taken a stand. The Parliamentary Consultation has decided. I will not be able to attend the general council since I have a meeting with President Ahmet Necdet Sezer at the Presidential residence scheduled at the same time."
