Switzerland’s crucial role in Turkish history

The book shows how Switzerland provided a safe haven for Young Turks running from the Ottoman state and how the young Republic of Turkey was formed out of the ashes of the Ottoman state in 1923 at Lausanne. This historical linkage includes the Turkish Civil Code being based entirely on the Swiss Civil Code, and the recent U.N. sponsored negotiations on Cyprus taking place in the Swiss resort town of Burgenstock.

The book is mainly in German, but also includes articles written in French. Schweizer was born in 1950 and has been working as a diplomat since 1980.
