Police seized 10 tons of drugs in 2004

Police arrested 11,639 people in connection to drug trafficking. The drugs seized by the police include 4.5 tons of base morphine, 3.4 tons of heroin, 2 tons of hashish, 24 kilograms of opium and 108 kilograms of cocaine.

Police officials noted that the use of synthetic drugs, like ecstasy and captagon, had increased, adding that 770 people were arrested in 273 raids in connection with such synthetic drugs.

According to a report prepared by the police, 7,934 people were arrested for drug trafficking last year. 5,720 were arrested for hashish, 1,012 for synthetic drugs, 1,002 for heroin, 143 for cocaine, 29 for opium, 18 for base morphine and 10 for acetic anhydride, which is used in drug production.
