Sezer calls US to look to future starting with Iraq

In an interview broadcast on Tuesday, Deputy Secretary of Defense Paul Wolfowitz said Turkey should admit that it had made a mistake in the Iraq war by not allowing in U.S. troops and urged Turkey to follow Washington’s line in its relations with Iran and Syria.

"We should look to the future, and should shape the future on the basis of mutual benefit and cooperation starting with Iraq," Atacanli said.

The problem should not be exaggerated and the relations should be put on its healthy track again, he added.

"Turkey and the U.S. are two independent states, and there isn’t a rule that two countries should think absolutely same in regard to the regional and international issues," said Atacanli and added, "Two country should put an end to these discussions and look to the future."

Meanwhile, Turkish Industrialists’ and Businesmen’s Association (TUSIAD) said the dialog between Turkey and the U.S. should be developed again putting the discussions aside.

TUSIAD Chairman Tuncay Ozilhan defended that the U.S. needs Turkey to establish an Iraqi administration in line with its wishes, and added, "The U.S. needs a strong Turkey in the region. But, all the sides should do their best for the future of the relations."

He also announced that TUSIAD will visit the U.S. in May or September.
