Second investigation into energy corruption deepens

The number of people detained in relation to a wide scale probe into corruption in Turkey’s energy sector rose to 18 on Thursday.
The investigation, dubbed White Energy II, has been looking into allegations of corruption in the tendering processes related to the energy sector and the setting up of an organised crime group for financial interests.
Police officers have been monitoring bank transfers and the records and computers of a construction company that has been involved in work with the sector.
Among those that have been detained are the Power Production Corp general manager Onder Piyade and his deputy Servet Ust and other senior directors. The deputy general manager of BOTAS, the state natural gas provider, Fuat Celepci, was among the first been taken into custody.
Among those detained are businessmen in the construction industry and employees at a number of luxury hotels.
