SARS Virus Dies at High Temperatures

The SARS virus reportedly could only live for five days at 24 degrees Celsius, 90 minutes at 56 degrees Celsius and only 30 minutes at 75 degrees Celsius according to experiments conducted by a research group led by Dong. Dong said that on Beijing’s hot days, ultraviolet rays could kill the virus within three hours. According to news reported in the Public’s Diary newspaper, precautions for controlling the SARS epidemic were discussed at the two-day symposium.

According to health officials, no one has died from SARS for the last 24 hours in China, Hong Kong and Taiwan, marking the first time since April that the number of deaths had not increased in all three countries. To date 334 people in China, 283 in Hong Kong and 81 in Taiwan have died as a result of being afflicted with SARS.
