Report: Turkey Expels Iraqi Diplomats
The United States has asked all countries with Iraqi embassies to expel their diplomats to isolate the regime of Saddam Hussein and remove a potential threat to U.S. interests.
Last month, Jordan became the first Arab country to expel Iraqi diplomats and Egypt on Tuesday ordered a senior diplomat to leave the country within a week.
The Turkish move came a day after police beefed up security near U.S. and British diplomatic missions and at military installations where U.S. troops are stationed.
Iraq Embassy officials were not available for comment.
Turkey refused to allow U.S. combat troops to use its territory to open a northern front in the war, but the government has allowed coalition planes to use its airspace.
Earlier this week, Turkey agreed to allow the United States to send fuel, food and medicine through its territory to U.S. troops fighting in Iraq.
