Prison Sentence to Arbitrary Fires in Turkey

The Appeals Court’s General Board of Punishment decided that, shooting guns to celebrate some events, such as, wedding or matches, constituted a “crime of danger” that should be punished. In Turkey, people are used to celebrate some events by firing their guns in the streets or sometimes the balcony of their houses. However, such instances caused injuries and deaths in the past. The Appeals Court took this fact into consideration and decided that such actions should be punished. In line with this decision, those who fire their guns in a way “to create fear, panic, and worry” will receive two years of prison sentence, even if their action did not hurt anyone and even if this action necessitated another prison sentence too. In the latter case this two years will be added on top of the other sentence.
