Platinum Discovered in Dalaman Turkey

Sivas Republic University and Nevada Mining and Geology Department discovered the platinum during studies done by the ‘Platinum Group-Element Chromite Association, Western Anatolia, Turkey’ joint-project.

The project, supported by the North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO), has been in progress for three years. The first data obtained indicated rich platinum sources in the chrome fields, about 15-17 grams per ton, three times more than the economic value required for processing.

Confirming the presence of platinum in Dalaman, experts P.J. Lechler, L.T. Larson and Assoc. Prof. Ali Ucurum said that the data obtained was not ready to be publicized yet . Ucurum explained, “We could not correlate the data from the first analysis with the second analysis. Findings in the second analysis were very low.” Ucurum said three samples were taken from the fields of the Eti Electrometallurgy Co. in Dalaman and sent abroad to be analysed.
