Pearson: Relationship Needs to Be Repaired

Pearson was speaking at a dinner he hosted commemorating the 260th birthday of Thomas Jefferson, a U.S. president who was instrumental in drafting the Declaration of Independence.

Raising eyebrows was the fact that AKP Kirikkale deputy Vahit Erdem was the only invitee from parliament at the dinner. Former Parliament Speaker and former CHP leader Hikmet Cetin, former State Planning Organization (DPT) Undersecretary Ali Tigrel and Faik Oztrak, who was recently relieved of his duties as treasury undersecretary, were among the guests.

Turkish-U.S. relations, which have lost their previous warmth since a note requesting permission to deploy U.S. troops in Turkey was rejected by parliament, were reportedly the main topic of discussion at the dinner held at the ambassador’s residence in Cankaya.
