Peace with Turkey at last

The Treaty of Lausanne was signed this afternoon in the Palais de Rumine, a hall belonging to the University. The Yugo-Slavs did not sign, being dissatisfied with the provisions for the partition of the Debt.

The Palais itself and the Place in front of it were gaily decorated, and were guarded by numerous gendarmes in full dress. The ceremony was held in the great hall, which is rather Florentine in aspect with rich frescoes symbolising the uses of fire. A company of about 500 persons had assembled, including representatives of the Canton of Vaud and the Municipality of Lausanne. Herr Scheurer, President of the Swiss Confederation, accompanied by Federal Councillors Schulthess and Chuard, opened the meeting.
