NATO gives green light to defend Turkey

Turkey has asked for Patriot anti-missile batteries, AWACS radar planes and specialised units to protect against nuclear, biological and chemical attack in its south-east in case of an attack from neighbouring Iraq. Belgium, France and Germany had blocked NATO from initiating military planning. The United States has expressed its delight with the decision.
