The first phase of the geothermal greenhouse project in Cip Village in the Elazig Municipality, Türkiye has been completed, with seedling production set to start by April 2023.

Mayor Sahin Serifogullari of Elazig, Türkiye announced that the first phase of the geothermal greenhouse project in the Cip Village Geothermal Greenhouse Areas has been completed. The mayor noted that seedling production is then expected to start by April 2023.

In late 2022, we first reported on the geothermal greenhouse being built on a 15,000-sq. meter area by the Municipality of Elazig.  It is expected to produce approximately 20 million domestic seedlings in the first stage of operations and will be the only greenhouse of its kind in the region.

Mayor Serifogullari stated that the two-story administrative building and peat warehouse with a usage area of 600 square meters are at the completion stage. He noted that the steel construction, polycarbonate coating, ventilation system, mosquito net system, heat screen works, walking paths, drainage system, and nylon works of the Geothermal Greenhouse have been completed to a large extent.

The Municipality aims to produce an average of 20 million or more seedlings every year. As part of the project, they have evaluated a geothermal water source at 2000 meters depth in line with the protocol signed with the General Directorate of Mineral Research and Exploration (MTA).

Reinjection well drilling for the project at an approximate cost of 20.000.000 TL continues within the framework of the 2nd Protocol with MTA. The second phase of the project will start in 2023 and a new greenhouse area of 30,000 square meters will be established.
