Kazakhstan wins chess bronze at XX Winter Deaflympics in Türkiye


The men’s chess team of Kazakhstan pocketed a bronze medal scoring 10 points at the XX Winter Deaflympics in Türkiye. Croatian team edged Poland and took home gold gaining 12 points, Kazinform News Agency cites the Kazakh Tourism and Sport Ministry.

Sultan Kozhakhmetov, Samazhan Kettebekov, Maxim Rozhkov, Amangeldi Nauryzgaliyev, Meirman Perneyev and Viktor Maximenko defended the country’s colors at the Deaflympics.

En route to the finals, the Kazakh sportsmen defeated Italy, Germany and Serbia and tied with Ukraine and Poland.

The XX Winter Deaflympic Games were held in the Turkish city of Erzurum from March 2 to 12. The event brought together around 1,000 athletes from 36 countries to compete for 34 sets of medals in six sports: alpine skiing, snowboarding, cross-country skiing, chess, futsal, and curling.

26 athletes represented Kazakhstan at the Deaflympics.
