Iranian Kharrazi meets Ziyal during stop over
Kharrazi was on his way to Morocco and his plane landed at Ankara’s Esenboga Airport for refueling, where he was greeted by Ziyal.
The two had a half-an-hour meeting and discussed developments in Cyprus in the post-referendum era and Iraq. Turkish Cypriots voted in favor of a U.N. plan to reunite the island on April 24 but the plan failed due to Greek Cypriot rejection.
Ziyal and Kharrazi discussed efforts to end international isolation of Turkish Cypriots after they voted for the reunification plan.
Ziyal asked for Iran’s support for upgrading of the status of the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus (KKTC) in the Organization of the Islamic Conference (OIC).
Kharrazi, for his part, expressed his country’s concerns on developments in Iraq.
