He also said there could be other projects for carrying the Iraq crude oil to the Mediterranean but added, “We do not have a project ready yet, and it seems unlikely, but as the minister, I pray that there could be such a chance.”

Talking to ZAMAN in Istanbul, Paritzky reminded that the 591 kilometres pipeline from Mosul to Haifa was closed after Second World War. After the Iraq War, private sector representatives visited him and inquired about the old pipeline.

“We said, ‘let us investigate and inform you later’. When we saw the news in the papers the other day we were surprised… I should say that this project cannot be realized because firstly, Iraq’s regime situation and future is uncertain; second, no one would invest money in this project without forming the sufficient mechanism that would provide enough crude oil.

“Who would invest money in such a project while it is not certain what will happen in Iraq in 8-10 weeks. Such opinions could only be a good joke. It is not possible to be realized in reality.”
