Historic Quran smuggled from Türkiye returned to its homeland

Minister of Culture and Tourism Mehmet Nuri Ersoy announced that the Holy Quran, which was illegally removed from Türkiye and offered for sale in the U.K. in 2017, has been returned to Türkiye. The Quran was written by Mustafa Dede, the son of the calligrapher Sheikh Hamdullah, the founder of the Ottoman calligraphy school, in the 16th century and will be exhibited at the Museum of Turkish and Islamic Art.

In his post, Ersoy highlighted that the manuscript utilizes a unique technique in calligraphy called “vassal,” where written portions are adhered to a different paper.

At the end of his post, he thanked everyone and all institutions that contributed to the return of the Holy Quran to Türkiye after a meticulous follow-up process.
