Health Cluster Türkiye Hub: Flash update#1: Escalation of hostilities along the greater Idleb front line – Syrian Arab Republic


  • The CCCM displacement monitoring teams have recorded 358 individuals/ 71 families displaced in Idleb and western Aleppo regions. Most affected communities are from Daret Azza, Sarmin, Idleb, Maarbalit, and Afs. The IDPs have relocated to the Afrin, Kelly, Burdaqly, Sarmada, and Ma’arrat Tamasrin communities.

  • Top priority needs in the places of arrival are tents, non-food items (NFI), and food. At the Camp level, Karaj Alsarfees, Military Hospital, Abo Defna, Taiba City, Burdaqly (Al Marj), Marbelet, Ali Bin Abi Taleb (Sarmada), and Markaz Eiwaa Maarat Musrin have received the highest number of displaced population (attached database refer- with relevant details. Muzun site monitoring teams and REACH continue to monitor the situation and we shall share updates as they come.

  • Reports about shellings in Daret Azza, W. Aleppo were recorded this morning; therefore, there is an expectation of displacement within or to the Afrin district. Continued shelling has raised concerns about the potential for an increase in the number of displaced individuals. The majority of the displaced are seeking refuge in inner regions and along the border, with many turning to relatives for shelter.

  • Deaths: 16 fatalities were reported (Source: Health Directorate), including nine men, five women and two children in Idleb, Sarmin, Ariha, Jisr Ash-Shugur and Daret Azza. As access to the area is challenging due to ongoing shelling and airstrikes, the exact number of casualties is difficult to determine.

  • Injuries: at least 81 individuals, including 43 men, 21 women, 17 children, have been injured in Ariha, Sarmin and Jisr al-Shughour. Among these, two were transferred to Al-Rahma Hospital in Darkush, while another was admitted to the Idlib Surgical Hospital.
