Greece in Weapons Bargaining with Russia
It was pointed out that Papandoniu conveyed to Ivanov that within the last two or three years there was a certain decline in Turkey’s threats towards them, but that the new government had again put old policies into practice. Greece had bought S-300s Russian air defense systems under the pretext of "the threats from Turkey" and those weapons had caused a serious reaction from Ankara as well.
Greece has bargained to purchase many weapons, including zenit (ZENITH?) rockets and air-defence systems from Russia. The Greece Minister of Defence pointed out that they wanted to expand the military capacity that they had and for this reason, they would prefer using the Russian- manufactured goods. Pointing out that they were content with being in cooperation with Russia in the field of military technology, Papandoniu informed that they would invite the Russian weapon manufacturing firms to all the future contract biddings in his country. The Greek minister, following his contacts in Moscow, will go to St.Petersburg to conduct observations of the Russian fleet.
