The i40, produced by Hyundai in Izmit and exported to more than 20 countries, now brings 1.0 horsepower to the B segment with its 1.4 lt turbo petrol engine, after its 1.6 lt and 204 lt engine versions. Developed by Hyundai inspired by the world of motorsports to which it returned in 2012, the i20 N also draws attention with its engine performance and dynamic technology.

Standing out as the most powerful car produced in Turkey, the Hyundai i20 N comes with a character that offers high-level performance and aggressive design elements. This special car, prepared by Hyundai with its experiences in motor sports, is one of the most exciting hot hatch models of recent years.

Murat Berkel: The fastest and most powerful car produced in Turkey

Expressing his views on the intriguing i20 N, Hyundai Assan General Manager Murat Berkel said, “After a long wait, we are very excited to finally launch our performance model in Turkey. A dynamic member of the Hyundai N family, the i20 N has an eye-catching appearance. It’s a lot of fun to drive, whether on the road or on the racetrack. While offering dynamism to Turkish consumers with this excellent performance and sporty design, we are also very proud to have signed the fastest and most powerful automobile produced in our country. “The only purpose of the i20 is to have fun driving,” he said.

Spirit from motorsport

The foundation of the new i20 N is motorsport. The only goal of the car, which was prepared in this direction, is to offer a sports driving pleasure with maximum performance in daily life. Like the i10, i20 and BAYON, the i20 N, produced with the labor of Turkish workers in Hyundai’s factory in Izmit, easily meets many criteria in the FIA World Rally Championship (WRC). Thus, while it is understood that the vehicle comes directly from motorsport, it also sheds light on the New i20 WRC in the World Rally Championship.

Powerful engine and dynamic design

The Hyundai i20 N, with its 1.6-liter turbo engine, allows for a high performance experience and also has a very striking appearance. The exterior design of the powerful model is combined with Hyundai’s Sensuous Sportiness design identity and emphasized under a high performance theme.

The vehicle, which is 20 mm lower than the current i10, has a completely different aerodynamic form in its exterior design. At the front, a bumper with a wider air intake for the turbo engine draws attention, while the wide radiator grille with the N logo is prepared with the checkered flag silhouette that symbolizes the race tracks. A red-striped bumper spoiler reinforces the model’s performance-oriented design. This red color accentuates its width and extends to the newly designed sill and back.

At the rear, there is a roof spoiler inspired by the i20 WRC. This aerodynamic part, besides its sporty appearance, also increases the downforce and thus offers an aggressive driving opportunity. This part, which helps to maintain balance at high speeds, is followed by the diffuser under the bumper. The rear bumper with its triangular rear fog lamp reflects the light theme we are accustomed to seeing in motorsports. In addition, the single exhaust outlet used in the vehicle clinches the engine’s high performance potential. This exhaust system opens the valve on the last muffler, depending on the driving modes, making the sound more dynamic and more provocative.

As with other i20 models, the front LED headlights are also present in the i20 N, while the darkened taillights support the sporty integrity of the i20 N. The Z-shaped rear LED lights also add a characteristic feature to the car at dusk. Specially designed 18-inch alloy wheels in matte gray are used with P Zero HN tires in the size 215/40 R18, which were produced exclusively for this model by Pirelli.

Thanks to these special P Zero HN tires, the vehicle’s handling and dynamism increase, while maximum driving pleasure is achieved on the race tracks. The powerful car is restrained by the 204 horsepower N branded red brake calipers produced by the high-performance engine and 320 mm discs at the front. While completing the athlete’s identity with this brake kit, it also provides maximum confidence and protection to the driver in high-performance uses. In addition, the brake system informs the driver with a visual warning on the instrument panel in case the pads are worn.

The i20 N comes in a black roof color with “Performance Blue” typical of Hyundai N models and “Phantom Black” for a two-tone style. Red parts on the body highlight Hyundai’s motorsport DNA and race tracks.

Modern and sporty interior

In the interior of the exciting car, performance-smelling hardware items are included. The i20 N, which contains all the elements that should be in a hot hatch car, has seats with the N logo, which is a mixture of nubuck and leather. Unlike the current model; There is also blue ambient ambient lighting in the completely black cockpit of the vehicle, which is produced with a three-spoke N steering wheel, N gear knob and N pedal set. Hyundai i20 N has a 10.25 inch digital display and a 10.25 inch AVN touch screen multimedia feature. Performance values can also be followed instantly on the dashboard. On this screen, besides oil and engine temperature, there are driving information such as warning light showing gear change time, G meter, turbo pressure, horsepower and torque values. The i20 N also has features such as keyless start, digital air conditioning, Apple CarPlay, Android Auto and wireless charging. In addition, there is a BOSE sound system with subwoofer for music enjoyment.

1.6 liter T-GDi engine and effective performance

The Hyundai i20 N is not just an athlete that draws attention with its exterior and interior. Supporting this character and stance with a high-performance turbo engine, the car uses a 1.6-liter turbo engine signed by Hyundai Motorsport. Only available with a six-speed (6MT) manual transmission, the vehicle produces a maximum of 204 horsepower. This efficient engine adorns its performance with a torque of 275 Nm, while the weight is 1265 kg. This weight shows that the vehicle has the best weight value in its class. In fact, with a power/weight ratio of 171 PS per ton, it is registered as the most dynamic and powerful model in its class.

While the Hyundai i20 N completes the 0-100 km/h range in 6.2 seconds, it can also reach a maximum speed of 230 km/h. The i20 N’s Flat Engine Power makes more use of the engine’s potential in everyday driving conditions by providing more torque and power at lower revs instead of going to maximum power figures at unusable high revs.

The car, which has a special system (Launch Control) for a more effective take off in normal road conditions or on race tracks, transfers its power to the ground at the desired speed. The i20 N also keeps its maximum torque between 1.750 and 4.500 rpm and reaches maximum power between 5.500 and 6.000. This rev range improves acceleration at medium and high speeds and provides high performance in various driving conditions.

A torsion gear type Mechanical Limited Slip Differential (m-LSD) is also used to control the power transfer to the front wheels. With this add-on, optimum traction is provided for a sportier and more agile drive, and the grip reaches maximum levels, especially in corners. The system activates when the difference in rotation speed between the wheels exceeds a certain limit and equalizes the rotation speeds. This ensures that the road grip is restored, especially in situations where traction loss is experienced, such as hard cornering. kazanand prevents the tendency to slip off the head.

In turbo engines, the cooling system and intercooler are extremely important. For this reason, Hyundai N engineers use a special turbo system in the vehicle. The turbo engine, cooled by N intercooler and water circulation, provides faster combustion and a more efficient fuel mixture with its 350 bar high pressure injection rail. Continuously Variable Valve Time (CVVD), on the other hand, regulates valve opening and closing time according to driving conditions. In this way, an increase in performance and a 3 percent improvement in fuel efficiency are achieved.

For more driving pleasure, the Hyundai i20 N has the N Grin control system. The car offers its users a high level of personalization with five different driving modes: Normal, Eco, Sport, N and N Custom. The drive modes adjust the engine’s Electronic Stability Control (ESC), the engine’s operating system, the exhaust sound and the steering stiffness. In N Custom mode, the driver can adjust the parameters necessary for driving as he wishes. For sportier driving pleasure, Electronic Stability Control (ESC) is available in three stages (open, sport and fully closed).

Hyundai N engineers have completely modified and reproduced the chassis, suspension, brakes and steering of the current i20 for handling. This special chassis developed for N can offer smoother handling on all roads and in all weather conditions. The chassis, which is reinforced at 12 different points for track performance, also has additional elbows and connection parts in some places.

The suspension used in the vehicle, on the other hand, has reinforced front towers and articulated joints with adjusted geometry. This means increased camber for better traction and five different fixing points for the wheel. For the pleasure of racing cars in daily life, a new type of anti-roll bar, sports coil springs and rigid shock absorbers were preferred. Having a 20 mm larger front disc than the current i40, the i20 N offers more effective braking performance as it should be. The Hyundai i20 N promises a very safe and sensitive drive thanks to its 12.0 reduced steering ratio and electronic engine-assisted hydraulic steering system (C-MDPS). The rev matching system (Rev Matching), on the other hand, predetermines the appropriate gear according to the speed of the vehicle and adjusts the engine speed according to the next gear. Thus, the system keeps the turbo pressure and engine speed at the top while providing perfect gear shifts.

The i20 N is the first Hyundai model to be equipped with Virtual Turbo Speed Control (VTC). Virtual Turbo Speed Control (VTC) has been developed to optimally control the turbocharger. This sensor keeps the driving pleasure fresh by maximizing the engine performance. In other words, VTC analyzes various data in the engine, allowing the turbo speed to work more precisely. Thus, the VTC quickly and accurately determines the engine’s current operating state and driving conditions and balances the pressure. It then pre-controls the turbocharger by adjusting the waste gate, which is directly responsible for the turbo speed. In other words, the VTC maximizes turbo control, increasing maximum torque from 2.000-4.000 to 304 Nm.

Active and passive safety equipment in the car is also quite remarkable. Described as a racing car suitable for daily life, the i20 N features Lane Departure Warning System (LDWS), Lane Keeping Assistant (LKA), Driver Attention Alert (DAW), High Beam Assistant (HBA), Lane Keeping Aid (LFA), rear view camera with parking direction. Systems such as (RVM), Intelligent Speed Limit Assist (ISLA), Forward Collision Avoidance Assist (FCA), Hill Start Assist (HAC) and Multiple Collision Avoidance Assist (MCB) are responsible for protecting the driver and vehicle occupants from potential hazards.
