EuroHockey Solidarity: Umpire Observation in Türkiye

After submitting a request for an EHF Solidarity Grant, the EHF and the Turkish Hockey Federation worked together on a project designed to observe and report on the umpiring at the final matches of the Men’s Indoor Super League in Alayna, Turkey.

The observation took place in late February and was carried out by experienced EHF Educator Tamas Hermann. Tamas’ observation focused on the umpire’s rule application, card procedure, and the relationship between the umpires, players, and coaches. His final report detailed the successes and areas of improvement for the local umpires.

Using the findings from Tamas’ report, the Turkish Hockey Federation is now able to implement changes to their umpire education and continue the development of local talent.

Thanks to Tamas’ experience as an international umpire and umpire educator, his feedback will also help to align the Turkish umpiring to the top European level, which is beneficial not just for the local umpires but also for those players who will find themselves playing in European tournaments in the future.

This project was funded by an EHF Solidarity Grant, a scheme designed to encourage, promote, develop, and support the national growth of hockey development, education, and governance across Europe. For more information on the EHF Solidarity Grants please watch here:
