Erdogan briefs Roth on Turkey’s EU bid

Meeting with Claudia Roth, the co-chairperson of the German Greens Group, on Tuesday Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan said that Turkey appreciated the backing Germany had given to Ankara’s EU bid.
Roth, who is in Turkey at the head of a delegations of Green’s politicians to look at Turkey’s progress in meeting the bloc’s accession criteria, said that while they wanted to be objective on the reforms implemented by Turkey there were still issues that merited criticism.
Erdogan thanked Germany for its good will and briefed Roth on the campaigns launched by the government to improve education, studies that had been conducted to overcome regional differences and activities of the government in protection of the environment.
The Greens Group wanted to see the establishment of a foundation university in Turkey which would give education in the German language and appointment of an official of the ruling Justice and Development Party (AK Party) for communication, Roth said.
