Denktas Calls on for National Government

At a press conference to assess the election outcome, Denktas said that the elections demonstrated that everyone was for a settlement. "The elections showed that everyone want a settlement, and entering into EU. But half of those people to be represented at Parliament think that, this does not have to necessarily be over the Annan Plan. Our people want solution but is divided in the method," he said.

Denktas said that the TRNC passed with success, an unbiased, transparent and democratic test which was not possible even in Europe.

"First the embargos on us, must be lifted (to enter EU). Our economy must be rendered as excellent as the economy of Greek Cypriots" he said.

EARLY ELECTIONS
Denktas said "The thing to do now is to talk with the party leaders separately and to ask whether they will find the number of form a government. Then I will charge the ones who will gather the necessary number (of seats) with forming the government. Our people emerged stronger from these elections."

He added that "The elections ended up with a 50-50 result. Unless they form a government within 2 months, calling on another election will be necessary."
