Army reacts to burning of Turkish flag
The written statement said that attack was of a traitorous nature and was made by by “pseudo citizens”.
All friends and enemies of Turkey should understand the inseparable integrity of the country, and the symbol of that unity and integrity was the great Turkish flag, the statement said.
The army was ready and had taken oath to pour out its blood to the last drop in order to protect the country and the flag, the General Staff statement read.
Senior politicians also reacted to the incident, with Foreign Minister Abdullah Gül saying that those people were “poor wretches”.
Dengir Mir Mehmet Fırat, a deputy chairman of the ruling Justice and Development Party (AKP) was another to condemn the incident.
“The ones who did it are insane or are provocateurs who want to sabotage social peace,” he said
Tuncer Bakirhan, the chairman of the pro-Kurdish party DEHAP, said that the incident was a provocation.
“The Turkish flag is also the flag of the Kurds,” he said.
