Another Torture Scandal in Iraq

According to the investigation report by the American Civil Independence Union, the detainees were beaten with water bottles, forced to move continually until they fainted from exhaustion, were deprived of sleep and exposed to deafening noises.

The report noted that one of the detainees had died after being forced to move continuously for four days as punishment in December 2003. The report also noted that the soldiers poured cold water over the detainees whose heads while they were covered with sacks, they shouted in the detainees’ ears using megaphones and made them listen to extremely loud music.

Cessim, who was arrested along with his father, who was an officer in Saddam Hussein’s army, even though he had not committed any crime said in his recollection: "They were pouring water over us the entire night, they intimidated us, and made us stand for hours for whole night, over and over again. They beat us from evening until the following morning."
