In April, the Taiwan metro bestowed the position of station master to a very special being, a ginger cat named Mikan. Mikan mostly puts up at the Ciaotou Sugar Refinery metro station. Over the years, it has gained celebrity status amongst commuters and local authorities. Mikan’s Instagram account has over 56,000 followers.
Mikan is not the only cat who is “employed” at a train station. George, a ginger tom, has the position of a “senior mouse catcher” at the Stourbridge Junction railway station in England. Similarly, Tama, a female calico cat, was appointed station master and operating officer at the Kishi station in Kinokawa in Japan.
