World Cup champion Luis Felipe Scolari in Turkey
Scolari mentioned that teamwork was of great importance as he gave a speech on ‘the technical and tactical preparations of the National Team of Brazil for the 2002 World Cup’.
Scolari reminded the audience that people, who laughed at him when he said he would have three players in midfield for World Cup matches, made him a "hero" after they won the Cup.
He also explained that he gave discipline, order, organization, motivation, and (limited) technical freedom to the Brazil National Team.
When asked, "How could you resist the media pressure?", Scolari replied: "I do not want a comrade journalist. I want either a friend or a journalist," and his answer was applauded for a long time.
UEFA Technical Improvement Committee President and the technical consultant for FIFA, who also happens to be Fenerbahce’s former coach, Dr.Joseph Venglos commented that Turkey’s important progress in sports should be a lesson for other countries.
The symposium participants also got the chance to forget about football for a while and visited the famous ancient city of Ephesus during the afternoon.
