Number of unemployed in Turkiye fell by 0.318 mn to 3.264 mn in 2023


The number of unemployed persons aged 15 and above fell by 318,000 to 3.264 million last year compared to the 2022 figure, according to the Turkish Statistical Institute (Turkstat).

The unemployment rate decreased by 1 percentage points to 9.4 per cent last year. It was estimated at 7.7 per cent for men and 12.6 per cent for women.

The number of employed persons aged 15 and above increased by 880,000 year on year (YoY) last year to 31.632 million and the employment rate was 48.3 per cent—a 0.8-percentage point increase YoY. This rate was estimated at 65.7 per cent for men and 31.3 per cent for women, a Turkstat release said.

Last year, Turkiye saw a decrease in unemployment, with the rate dropping to 9.4 per cent, and the number of unemployed individuals aged 15 and above falling by 318,000 year-over-year to 3.264 million.
Employment increased by 880,000, reaching 31.632 million, with the employment rate at 48.3 per cent.
The labour force expanded to 34.896 million.

The labour force increased last year by 562,000 YoY to 34.896 million. The labour force participation rate was 53.3 per cent in the year—a 0.2-percentage point increase YoY. The rate was estimated 71.2 per cent for men and 35.8 per cent for women.

The youth unemployment rate in the 15-24 age group last year was 17.4 per cent—a 2-percentage point decrease YoY. This rate was estimated 14.3 per cent for men and 23.2 per cent for women.
