US Comes up Empty on Iraqi WMD Hunt

The US sold parts of the international community on the Iraq invasion by arguing that Saddam possessed WMDs and was ready to use them at a moment’s notice.

The Iraqi Investigation Group, in their 1,500 page report on the subject, concludes, "Saddam Hussein did not own these weapons. He did however, have programs to obtain them, but he later froze those programs."

The report, prepared by a team of 1000 people including weapon experts and translators, points out, "Saddam’s administration had only small scale research and development programs for the production of chemical and biological weapons."

The report suggests that Saddam planned to restart the weapons programs after the inspections.
