Yushchenko, Presidency at Last

When the Ukrainian High Court overrules all the objections by pro-Russian Prime Minister Viktor Yanukovych regarding election’s outcome, Yushchenko will be able to swear in as the President. In a new development, the Ukraine parliament yesterday determined the inauguration date for Yuschenko as 23 January 2005. The day after the ceremony, new President will visit Moscow, it has been announced.

Yanukovych on the other hand said he will apply to the European Court of Human Rights to seek his rights.

Elsewhere in Moscow, Russian President Vladimir Putin congratulated Yushcehnko for the third time for winning the election after the second round in November had been cancelled due to claims of corruption. However, Putin’s message was unusual in that it was announced through the Russian Embassy in the Ukrainian capital Kiev, instead of the Kremlin.
