World Bank: Turkey Has Moderate Income, ‘Temperate’ Debt
The World Bank considers countries that have a national income of $745 or less per capita as being low income, while those that have a national income per capita of between $746 and $925 are described as moderate-income countries for 2001.
The World Bank rates countries having foreign debt of less than 132 percent of export and foreign currency income and which totals less than 48 percent of gross national product (GNP) as countries with "low" indebtedness. The bank considers countries possessing debt equal to 132-220 percent of export and foreign currency income and between 48 and 80 percent of GNP as countries of "temperate" indebtedness. Countries exceeding these percentages (220 percent and 80 percent) are characterized as having "intensive" debt.
