World Athletics Race Walking Team Championships to begin in Antalya, Türkiye | Local News


The World Athletics Race Walking Team Championships will start on Sunday in the Turkish Riviera resort city of Antalya, the very first time Türkiye has hosted the event.

In the event to be held in the EXPO 2016 area, 431 athletes from 52 countries will compete for spots in the Paris 2024 Olympic Games, set to start in July.

In the MIX relay, held by World Athletics (WA) for the first time in this championship, 127 athletes will compete.

Representing Türkiye in the championship will be Meryem Bekmez, Kader Dost, Ayse Tekdal, Emine Ceylan, Elif Nur Ozbey, Selin Cadir, Salih Korkmaz, Mazlum Demir, Hayrettin Yildiz, Sahin Senoduncu, Ozan Bayram, Diyar Bayram, Harun Bilir, Tulin Ek, Esma Oztekin, Serife Berra Guven, Mehmet Gungor, Seyhmus Capat and Ilhan Govce.

The World Athletics Race Walking Team Championships, known as the Lugano Cup after the city where it was first held until 2016, was first organized by the International Association of Athletics Federations (IAAF) in 1961.
