Wolfowitz: We Made Silly Mistakes
One of the architects of the Iraq War, Wolfowitz claimed that most Iraqis expected "the impossible" from America. "It is sometimes beautiful to be worshipped as God-like, but when something goes wrong, the conclusion ‘it didn’t work because the Americans didn’t want it to’ is drawn. The fact is, we also frequently make mistakes; we do silly things."
In his statement made in Washington, Wolfowitz pointed out that some conditions in the region, primarily security, were worse than Americans expected. Wolfowitz cited the US failure to take Iraqi resistance more seriously, the American expectation of more Iraqi soldiers to take the side of the US, and the failure to establish Iraqi police forces as the three main causes of the current problems in Iraq.
