We Ignored the Toxic Vessel

Now the question here is: Who committed this 45-year negligence?

Banu Dokmenbasi, a Greenpeace official, said that "The vessel had ashes loaded from thermal plants in Spain. Delivery of these chemicals is banned all over the world." The Greenpeace had protested the presence of the poisonous ship in Turkey.

Environment Minister Osman Pepe said that "Has the ship sunken or was it sabotaged? The reason of the incident will be clarified today by experts from the General Staff and Naval Forces." Pepe said in a press conference that 380 thousand tons of water would be affected from the poison which spread to the water. He added that Spain would pay compensation to Turkey.

However, both the governorate and the Spanish Environment Ministry denied that such compensation will be paid.

Swimming, fishing and diving in the vicinity has been banned.
